In March, the Southeast TN CRAFT Program offered a Business Planning and Grants Workshop led by Stephen Ussery of Stewards Unlimited and farmer Randall Tomlinson. The workshop focused on preparing for grants by having a solid business plan and clear goals, and identifying grants that fit within your farm’s specific needs. Afterwards, Cove Creek Farm hosted the group for a tour of their land where they graze beef cattle, goats, and broiler chickens and have an agri-tourism enterprise that includes indoor and outdoor play areas and a petting zoo.

The Southeast TN CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) program highlights farmers in the region and helps to facilitate farmer-to-farmer learning. There are many ways to approach the topics covered in the workshops. The information shared at each CRAFT workshop reflects the philosophy of the farmer-educator(s) and their findings/ways of doing things that work for them in their operation. There will always be an opportunity to learn more, dive deeper into the topics, and approach them from different angles.
